Italy has confirmed 28 migrants have tested positive for COVID-19, AP reported referring to Sicily’s governor.

The governor suggested a new complication in Italy’s efforts to manage waves of Libyan migrants smuggled across the Mediterranean.

Migrants have been held on a ship near the Sicilian city of Porto Empedocle, where some potential asylum seekers are quarantined after being rescued at sea.

SeaWatch, the German aid group active in rescuing migrants, has flagged an asymptomatic migrant, who turned out to test positive.

The group has been then ordered to quarantine at sea and conduct additional tests among other migrants.
