The Utah State Police Department on Tuesday said it was collaborating with a series of investigations into the shooting of a 13-year-old boy with autism by officers in the Salt Lake City area, NBC Washington reported.

Police said they were called to a home in Glendale, Utah on Friday night, claiming that a teen threatened people with guns. The boy ran and the police officer shot him after being chased.

The Salt Lake City Police Department said that after each shooting incident involving officers, an independent investigation is being conducted by a team of officers from various departments outside the Salt Lake City Police Department.

The teen's mother reported that her son had autism and called the police because he had a nervous breakdown and needed the help of the crisis response team.

According to her, she told police that her son was unarmed and warned that he did not know how to control himself.

A few minutes after the police arrived, the woman said she heard an order to lie down, and several shots were fired.

Np weapons were reportedly found at the scene.

A 13-year-old teen was hospitalized. His condition is assessed as serious.
