YEREVAN. – The main problem of the judicial system of Armenia is the lack of judges in the whole republic; there should be considerably more judges in Armenia. Yervand Khundkaryan, one of the candidates for a judge of the Constitutional Court—and who is nominated to this post by the General Assembly of Judges—said this during the debates on the candidacies for judges of the Constitutional Court at Monday’s session of the National Assembly.

According to Khundkaryan, an average of 240 judges have been working in the country for the last five years, and they preside over up to 250,000 cases a year. "Thus, one judge in Armenia gets about a thousand—and even more—cases a year; these are simply inhumane working conditions," he complained.
