97 outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N8 avian influenza have been identified in South Korea as of Thursday morning, the Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries reported.

The agency notes that a total of more than 28 million heads of poultry have been destroyed for preventive purposes in the country since the end of November last year.

Due to a sudden deficit, a sharp rise in prices for poultry meat and chicken eggs has been noted. To stabilize prices for the period until June 30, import tariffs for chicken eggs and seven types of poultry products were canceled.
