YEREVAN. - It’s unlikely that Syrian Radical Islamists will have a chance to come to power, however they are capable of messing up the country, said former Armenian Ambassador to Syria, orientalist David Hovhannisyan to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

According to him, the recent years’ political stability in Syria is largely reconditioned with ruling authoritarian regime, backed up by developed secret service structure.

"If an authoritarian regime in Syria falls shaken by Muslim radicals, the country will go into chaos,” explained the expert, adding that this, in its turn can lead to deterioration of Syria-Iran tandem, which
ensures balance across the region.

Hovhannisyan noted that activation of Muslim radicals in Syria accounts for the fact the leaders of radical movement managed to enter the country. The expert ruled out the possibility of a military operation in Syria on behalf of the great-powers, because, he said, the rule of radical Islamists is not beneficial for them.
