The Criminal Court of Appeal of Armenia today rejected the appeal of the attorneys of former chairman of the Urban Development Committee of Armenia Vahagn Vermishyan against the decision on his arrest, Vermishyan’s attorney Mushegh Arakelyan reported.
The National Security Service had received data according to which Vermishyan had reached agreements with people involved in construction works or representatives of construction firms and received bribes in a large amount and in a particularly large amount (AMD 1-2,500,000) through a close person. In exchange, in 2019, Vermishyan performed actions in their favor or contributed to speedy implementation of desired decisions and was charged with receiving a bribe in a particularly large amount.
Six other persons are also charged with the specified criminal case. Arrest has been chosen as a pre-trial measure against three of them. Former head of the Investigation Department of Yerevan Jon Farkhoyan is also under this criminal case (the court applied alternative pre-trial measure (release on bail) for him).
