YEREVAN.- Armenia’s Ombudsman and “Public Information and Need of Knowledge” NGO signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of protection of rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community (LGBT).

The memorandum provides for discussion of research results and proposals presented by public organizations. If necessary, the Ombudsman will present legislative proposals. The organizations engaged in protection of LGBT community’s rights will submit complaints to the Ombudsman.

NGO Chairman Mamikon Hovsepyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am that a forum which brought together representatives of civil society and human rights advocates was held in resort town of Tsakhkadzor on June 3-4.

Speaking about the memo, Mamikon Hovsepyan said that work with Ombudsman will be carried out in different directions, in particular protection of LGBT community’s rights, protection of AIDS patients, as well as gender protection.
