Those responsible for the March 1, 2008 tragic events have not been found yet. There are profound reasons for it, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said on Wednesday answering questions of the PACE delegates in Strasbourg.

“We involved the best experts, considerable work was carried out. We called on all the states and international agencies. I would like to express my gratitude to Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Thomas Hammarberg for his help regarding the experts,” he said.

President Sargsyan stressed that he had recently instructed the investigators to more actively deal with the case expressing hope that investigation team would do its utmost to solve the crime.

“I believe the investigators are working transparently. Twice a month, journalists have an opportunity to meet with members of the investigative team and get answers to their questions,” he concluded.

Armenian opposition did not recognize official results of the presidential election held on February 19, 2008. Leader of the opposition Levon Ter-Petrosyan organized rallies in the Liberty Square, in the center of Yerevan, which lasted until March 1. Thousands took to the streets demanding that official election results should be canceled. Ten people, including two law enforcers, became victims of confrontation.
