The visit of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan to Kazan is over, the Armenian News-NEWS.am correspondent reports.

The presidential aircraft will land in Yerevan’s Zvartnots airport in two hours.

Serzh Sargsyan and his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilahm Aliyev arrived in Kazan on Friday at the invitation of Russian leader Dmitry Medvedev.  Armenian and Russian leaders attended the traditional Russian President’s Cup horse race.

The main topic of talks, held in this format for the second time this year, were the issues regarding the Karabakh conflict.

After over three-hour discussion in the Kazan Kremlin, the sides nevertheless failed to agree on Basic principles of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement.

The document, which was discussed in Kazan, is a result of an important period of joint work of the parties and co-chairs. The Russian Foreign Ministry said it was a solid foundation for further advancement and preparation for the comprehensive peace agreement.

In a statement issued after the meeting the presidents noted “the achievement of mutual understanding on a number of issues. Solution of these issues contributes to creating conditions for the approval of the basic principles.”

The experts say summit may not be called a failure as the statement indicates “reaching mutual understanding”. However, breakthrough was not achieved as well, despite calls of the leaders of Russia, U.S. and France.
