YEREVAN. – If U.S. does not press Turkey appropriately, it will delay discussions on Armenian-Turkish protocols even up to 2014, expert Artak Shakaryan told at a press conference on Tuesday.

According to him, Ankara will not consider the protocols in case of absence of U.S. pressure, as protocols are not most urgent issue for Turkey. Turkey has other urgent issues such as internal political problems, particularly denial of Kurdish deputies from their mandates and relations with Syria.

Thus, no protocol can guarantee Armenia from attacks of its Western neighbor, expert concluded. Current neutral position of Turkey is based on the existence of Russian military base in the territory of Armenia. The expert also emphasized the inadmissibility of "internal weakness" for Armenian.

Armenian-Turkish protocols on regulating and establishing diplomatic relations were signed by the governments but were not ratified in the parliaments due to Turkey’s unconstructive position.
