The Inter-Parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy adopted a resolution condemning the Genocide of the Christian nations - Armenians, Greeks, Assyrians in Ottoman Turkey in the early 20th century.

Twenty-eight delegates unanimously voted for the resolution during the 18 session held in Paris on June 21-24.

“The Inter-Parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy expresses its solidarity in the struggle for recognition and condemnation of the genocide of Christians in the Ottoman Empire in the late 19th and early 20th century,” the resolution reads.

The resolution also condemns modern Turkey because of its unwillingness to recognize the genocide of Armenians, Greeks and Assyrians in the Ottoman Empire.

The organization condemns any attempts to destroy cultural and historical heritage of these nations in Turkey, calling on world community to recognize the genocide of Christians regardless of political interests.

The delegates called on civilized countries to oblige Turkey to take responsibility for the genocide of Christians which will enable to restore historical justice and prevent recurrence of such crimes.
