TBILISI. – It is possible that the President of Georgia spoke recklessly when he announced that any opponent to Georgia or Azerbaijan is considered to be a common opponent, president of Caucasus Institute for Peace, Democracy and Development Ghia Nodia told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

According to the expert, policy of Georgian authorities is directed to keeping the balance both with Armenia and Azerbaijan.

“It was likely a reckless statement. But the policy is directed to good relations with both states if we take a slight glimpse of the facts,” believes the expert.

In response to the question whether the diplomatic relations between Yerevan and Tbilisi may be affected by such ‘careless’ statements, the expert stated that currently nothing can impact on the relations. However, he can guarantee nothing for future.

Georgian President Mikheil Saakasvhili stated earlier that Georgia and Azerbaijan should stand for each other “paying attention to our geographical position and common history.”

“We share common interests and have strong ties. Both states [Georgia and Azerbaijan] have serious problems regarding unsolved conflicts. Any opponent for Azerbaijan and Georgia is considered to be a common opponent for both states. Our power is in unity and these are not just words but reality,” stated Saakasvhili.
