Some cleaners at Amsterdam's Schiphol airport went on strike for several hours on Monday, but flights were not affected, Reuters reported citing a union representative.

The striking workers were outraged that they were not scheduled to be paid a bonus of 5.25 euros an hour offered to about 15,000 other airport workers, union spokesman Joost van Doesburg told the agency.

The strike involved cleaners who do not work directly at the airport but are employees of agencies that work for other companies, such as airlines, and are not included in the bonus agreement, the union spokesman said.

Schiphol is currently struggling with a staff shortage that has led to a 16 percent reduction in the number of passengers the airport will receive this summer.
