A massive forest fire raged in the US state of Utah, local TV channel KUTV reported.

The fire has spread to an area of nearly 3 thousand hectares.

The first centers of flames were detected as early as 8 July. During this period, western Utah was in the risk zone due to strong winds and abnormally hot weather.

Firefighters were hampered by wind and dry conditions.

State fire department spokesman said that current efforts are focused on securing nearby residential areas.
