At least 89 people have been victims of gang conflicts in Haiti in one week alone, France Press reported.

Another 16 people are missing. Clashes between gangs controlling the area have intensified in the state capital of Port-au-Prince. Several hundred local residents are trapped in their homes.

The U.N. reports on the deteriorating security and humanitarian situation in Haiti after the assassination of President Jovenel Moise on the night of 7 July 2021. There was also a massive earthquake last year, killing 2,200 people.

In June, bandits in Haiti took 38 people hostage on buses. The kidnapping and hijacking took place at the exit of the country's capital, Port-au-Prince. The agency notes that Haitian authorities have lost control of the only road connecting Port-au-Prince to the south of the country since last year. As a result, about two kilometers of the road are under the control of armed gangs.
