Police in India shot and killed a tiger that killed at least nine people in Champaran, Bihar state.

About 200 police officers hunted the predator. The male tiger terrorized communities around the Valmiki Tiger Reserve. Kumar Gupta, the region's chief wildlife advocate, told the Times of India that the tiger had been identified as life-threatening.

India is home to more than 70% of the world's wild tigers.
