Assistant Undersecretary of Defense Sasha Baker discussed with Greek Undersecretary of National Defense Nicholas G. Hardalias the prospects for expanding the U.S. military presence in Greece, the Pentagon said.
The two leaders exchanged views on expanding the U.S. military presence in Souda Bay and other areas of Greece to enhance support for the NATO alliance, particularly in the eastern Mediterranean, the Balkans, the Black Sea and NATO's southern flank, the press release said.
The parties also noted the importance of the port of Alexandropoulis for sustainable access to NATO's eastern flank and especially for assistance to Ukraine.
Baker thanked Greece for supporting Ukraine and encouraged continued Greek-Turkish dialogue to reduce tensions in the region.
