In Greece, the head of the railway station was arrested after the collision of a passenger and a freight trains in Tempi, as a result of which 36 people were killed, ERT public television reports.

It is noted that the director of the Hellenic Trains station is the main person responsible for the accident. On Wednesday morning, he was summoned to the court to testify. He had to explain why the passenger train stopped for more than an hour at the Palaiofarsalos railway station, as well as why the two trains ended up on the same opposite tracks.

Also, the railway employee who is responsible for adjusting the position of the rails was called to the Larissa road traffic department. Currently, the department is carrying out an investigation and collecting case materials on the incident.

The representative of Hellenic Trains as well as the train conductors and dispatchers also testified. According to ERT, the investigation is trying to find out whether the tragedy happened due to human factors or technical errors.

The criminal code of Greece provides up to life imprisonment in case of guilt in this railway disaster.

In the early morning hours on Wednesday, a freight and a passenger train collided in the town of Tempi, which is not far from the city of Larisa. As a result, a fire broke out, and three train cars derailed. According to the latest data, 36 people died and 66 were hospitalized; six of them are in the intensive care unit.
