The death toll in the collision between a passenger and a freight train in Greece has reached 57, the Protothema portal wrote.

"The confirmed number of casualties who have been removed from under the wreckage of the passenger train at the moment is 57 people," the message stated.

According to mass media, 48 injured were taken to the hospital, and six of them are in the intensive care unit.

And 56 people are missing.

The process of identifying the dead is underway.

Rescue operations are ongoing at the accident site.

The aforesaid trains collided on Wednesday night in the small town of Tempi near the city of Larissa. As a result, a fire started, three train cars derailed.
