Flash floods and landslides triggered by heavy rains hit eastern Nepal leaving one person dead and at least 25 others missing, Reuters reports, citing local authorities.
Government official Bimal Paudel said torrential rains washed away a hydroelectric power plant under construction on the Hewa River in eastern Nepal district of Sankhuwasabha, where 16 workers have gone missing.
"One body has been recovered while police are searching for the missing labourers," the official said.
According to officials, 9 people have also gone missing as a result of flash floods and landslides in the neighboring districts of Taplejung and Panchthar on the eastern border with India.
Authorities say heavy rain hindered the rescuers from reaching the hilltop village of Sidingwa, where at least 20 homes were at risk of being swept away.
