YEREVAN. – Armenia registered increase of democratic support index by 28% for the latest four years. As a result, it moved from 26th position to the 2nd among former post Soviet states, following the leader for last year Tajikistan, European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) annual report on developing states reads, RIA-Novosti reports.

As a whole the global economic crisis reduced the level of democracy support in developing states by 10 %. Moreover, the index reduced sharper in more developed states as compared to CIS states, where the index increased on the contrary.

Democracy support in the region of EBRD as a result of crisis including post Soviet states and Turkey reduced last year to 63-64 % as compared to 73-74% in 2006.

People support principles of democracy less, there where the population suffered most resulted by the crisis. According to the research, the highest indexes for democracy support since 2006 preserved Turkey, Montenegro, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Albania and Tajikistan. Georgia, Kazakhstan, Belarus and Armenia joined to the list for the recent four years. In Russia the trust for democracy went up a little in 2006.
