YEREVAN. – Armenian Ombudsman Karen Andreasyan clarified his point of view regarding legal provisions of media responsibility for defamation and the recent decision of the Constitutional Court at a press conference on Wednesday.
Human Rights’ Defender said that the article needs clarifications, amendments, corrections. However, as a whole, its adoption is a positive step to regulate the field.
Andreasyan offers two ways to resolve the issue. First, it is necessary to initiate a project on article amendments by NGOs and media. Second, it is necessary to install a mechanism of self-regulation. According to him, civilized way of protecting the honor defiled in the media is to require rejection.
Andreasyan said that each citizen has the right to appeal to the court. Besides, the oligarch should be ashamed of filing a lawsuit without asking a rejection first.
