YEREVAN. - Trans-Caucasus highway, which unites South Ossetia with Russia, is closed due to danger of avalanches, Ossetia Minister of Emergency Situations Anatoly Bibilov said.

According to him, northern part of the highway was closed on Friday due to danger of avalanches. Currently anti-avalanche service specifies the centers, ITAR- TASS reports.

The highway may be opened after the forced avalanche later the same day, RIA Novosti reports. To note, there are no traffic congestions in both directions as well, the Minister said.

Earlier it was reported that the highway was closed since Thursday due to malfunction of electricity supply. However, it again was opened on Friday after the electricity supply was restored. 

Some media connect the closing of the highway with the complicated situation in South Ossetia.
