China hopes to resolve trade disputes with the European Union (EU), Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian stated at a briefing.

"We hope that the EU will continue consultations with China, will seek a way to resolve the trade disagreements," Lin said. According to him, dialogue and cooperation are the basis of China-EU relations.

Lin noted that introducing high tariffs is a manifestation of backing that harms cooperation, the interests of European consumers, and the EU's green transformation plans.

The European Commission of the EU on Tuesday approved a 35.5 percent tariff on imports of electric vehicles from China for five years. Brussels added, however, that the parties will continue to seek a compromise in this matter. The aforesaid decision will come into force on Thursday.
