Sweden will provide three warships and an Air Force aircraft for the NATO operation to protect underwater cables in the Baltic Sea, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson announced, Yle reports.

Kristersson, however, did not specify which ships would be sent on this mission.

As for the plane, it is the ASC 890 “flying radar,” which is designed to carry out radar reconnaissance. It can detect objects on the sea surface at a distance of 350 km and see targets even the size of a reactive jet ski.

Kristersson noted that Sweden, as a member of NATO, will provide its armed forces to this alliance for defense and deterrence in the region for the first time.

He announced this decision at the opening of the annual security conference in Selena.

Sweden is not in a state of war, but there is no peace either, the PM described the situation.

According to Kristersson, the cable breaks in the Baltic Sea are unlikely to be accidental.

He warned that Sweden and its neighbors will face new hybrid attacks, including sabotage, disinformation, and cyber hacking.
