German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is against US President Donald Trump's idea of removing Palestinians from the Gaza Strip and permanently resettling them in Arab countries, calling this proposal unacceptable, reports DPA.

"A decision that ignores or even violates international law is unacceptable," Steinmeier said in Ankara.

Also, the German president does not believe that the planned negotiations between Arab states and the new US administration on this basis will be successful.

Steinmeier stressed that a solution to the conflict can only be found if Israel's security and Palestinian self-determination are guaranteed.

"This is a difficult and perhaps longer path. But I fear that arbitrary cuts along that path, especially the disregard for international law and its rules, will not lead to the goal," added the German president.
