Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the US is not ending providing aid to other countries, but this process and structure must be reorganized, taking into account the national interest. He stated this in an interview with the host of the SiriusXM Patriot podcast.

Rubio noted that the US is not  is not walking away from foreign aid, and assured that the country will be “involved,” the Department of State noted in a press release.

“I believe that foreign aid done right is good for the country, but it has to be done right,” added the US Secretary of State.

He noted that the idea that the US “spend between $40 and $60 billion on foreign aid and all that money is well spent or on things that make sense is absurd.”

“There’s a lot of it that isn’t,” the US Secretary of State believes.

According to him, it is necessary to review all US foreign aid, a considerable part of which is channeled through the USAID, and the rest—through the State Department.

“Identify the foreign aid that makes sense, the foreign aid that actually supports our country and that supports our national interests, and continue to do that; and then get rid of the ones that are a waste of money, or in some cases or run counter to our foreign – to our national interest and to our interests around the world,” the US Secretary of State said.

Now, he said, the US has suspended all foreign aid to review all projects. Those that do not make sense will be eliminated, while those that do will be maintained, possibly increased.

The US administration has stopped funding international aid through the USAID.
