A large part of the work of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) was aimed at influencing elections, said Elon Musk, head of the US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

“Too much of what USAID did was aimed at influencing elections in questionable ways that did not stand up to criticism,” Musk said, speaking to reporters at the White House alongside US President Donald Trump.

Musk, however, did not provide any details or specify which countries he was talking about.

Speaking about the USAID’s work, Musk emphasized: “In terms of return on investment, I would say that overall it was not always very good.”
