Armenian ambassador to Cyprus Tigran Mkrtchyan on Thursday met with the president of the Cypriot House of Representatives, Annita Demetriou, on the occasion of the end of his diplomatic mission in Cyprus.

Ambassador Mkrtchyan thanked the speaker of the Cypriot parliament for the principled position she demonstrated on matters related to Armenia and the Armenian people, and attached importance to the development of Armenia’s relations with Cyprus at all levels, highlighting the maintenance of activeness within the framework of parliamentary diplomacy, Armenian News-NEWS.am was informed by the embassy of Armenia in Greece. In this context, the possibilities of visiting Armenia in the near future were discussed.

Also, the Armenian diplomat informed about the details of the passing—in the first reading on Wednesday—by the National Assembly of Armenia of the draft law on the launch of the process of the country's accession to the European Union.

The actions taken by Armenia towards signing a peace treaty with Azerbaijan, as well as regional developments, were presented, too.

The speaker of the House of Representatives of Cyprus responded that she accepts the invitation to visit Armenia, adding that Armenia is of strategic importance to Cyprus. She reaffirmed Cyprus’ unwavering support for Armenia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. Also, Annita Demetriou thanked Armenia for its constant support on matters concerning Cyprus.

Vartkes Mahdessian, the representative of the Cypriot Armenian community in the House of Representatives of Cyprus, also participated in this meeting.
