Azerbaijan is considering alternative means for Nabucco gas transportation to Europe although nothing specific is yet in sight about the launch of the project. It is possible that the compressed gas will be transported via tankers across the Black Sea, that according to Natik Aliyev, Azeri Minister of Industry and Energy “is something Azerbaijan has never done before,” Eurasianet e-source of Nov. 16 reads.

According to the Minister Natik Aliyev his department “will examine the technical and financial aspects of the tanker option,” the source says.

“Speaking about the proposed Nabucco pipeline, Aliyev said that it is now up to European participants and governments to get the project off the ground, the APA news agency reported on November 14. At this point, Azerbaijan is the only large-scale supplier that has committed to providing natural gas to the pipeline,” the source concludes.
