The Nobel Peace Prize for 2025 has been awarded to Venezuelan politician Maria Corina Machado, the Norwegian Nobel Committee announced.
The prize was awarded to her “for her tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.”
Machado, 57, was a member of Venezuela’s National Assembly from 2011 to 2014, ran in the 2012 presidential election, and is an opponent of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro’s government.
