On October 22, Armenian Ambassador to Italy Vladimir Karapetyan and Azerbaijani Ambassador to Italy Rashad Aslanov took part in the “Peace is Possible” discussion at the invitation of Giorgio Bartolomucci, head of the Festival della Diplomazia club. Around 150 scholars and students from various Italian universities attended the event, the Armenian Embassy in Italy told NEWS.am.

The discussion was moderated by Fabio Sokolovich, diplomatic advisor to the Mayor of Rome.

The Armenian ambassador, presenting Armenia’s efforts to establish peace in the region undertaken by the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, highlighted the significance of the agreements reached in Washington in August. Addressing the Prime Minister’s efforts to establish peace, the ambassador quoted a section from his message:

"With the President of Azerbaijan, we also recognized the necessity of outlining a bright future not predetermined by past conflicts, in accordance with the UN Charter and the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration. We declared that, after a conflict that caused unimaginable human suffering, conditions have finally been created for our peoples to establish friendly relations based on the principles of the inviolability of international borders and the inadmissibility of the use of force to acquire territory. This reality, which should never be revised, paves the way to close the chapter of enmity between our two peoples. We firmly reject and exclude any attempt at revenge now and in the future."

Speaking about the transit route through Armenia, the ambassador emphasized that its operation must adhere to agreed principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, legality, and equality.

Both the Armenian and Azerbaijani ambassadors also underscored the special role of U.S. President D. Trump in promoting peace in the region.
