The Armenian Bar Association will appeal to international organizations regarding violations of lawyers’ rights in the country, the head of the Association, Simon Babayan, announced at a press conference on October 24.
Speaking about the recent events—the detention and arrests of clerics and lawyers Alexander Kochubayev and Ruben Mkhitaryan—Babayan noted interference in lawyers’ professional activities and obstruction of their work.
“The Bar Association considers such incidents unacceptable and strongly condemns them. Letters have been prepared for international organizations. We will remain consistent in restoring rights and preventing such cases from recurring,” Babayan emphasized, expressing surprise at the lack of response from relevant international human rights institutions.
Further steps will be announced, the head of the Armenian Bar Association added.
