YEREVAN. – A school of advanced Chinese-language teaching will function in Armenia as of September, noted Levon Mkrtchyan, the Minister of Education and Science, at a press conference on Monday.

In his words, this school will function through a special program, and the Chinese side has invested US$11 million to this program.

“The school will operate on an area of 15,000 square meters and meet all modern standards; the construction will be completed in September,” said the minister. “It will be a an ordinary Armenian school, where we will begin the teaching of Chinese from the fifth grade.

“Aside from that assistance, the Chinese side will provide Chinese[-language] teachers, for the next four to five years, who will come, work here until we have our [own] generation of Chinese[-language] teachers.”

Mkrtchyan recalled that the Confucius Institute already works successfully in Armenia.
