YEREVAN. – The Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) intends to launch adoption of sanctions on Azerbaijan over its threats of downing civilian aircrafts that will arrive in Stepanakert, the capital city of the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh Republic). Nora Hovsepian, Chairperson of the ANCA Western Region, noted about this at a press conference on Wednesday.

As per Hovsepian, the respective bill aims to help open the Stepanakert airport.

She added that the ANCA supports Artsakh representatives’ participation of in the Karabakh conflict negotiation process, withdrawal of snipers from the frontline, introduction of mechanisms for investigation of incidents in the region, and continued US assistance to Artsakh.

Azerbaijani authorities have repeatedly threatened to shoot down civilian planes if the Stepanakert airport were to open.
