YEREVAN. – The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) of the Republic of Armenia has granted the petition to institute criminal proceedings against the judge that used to preside over the October 27 case and to deprive him of his liberty. This was reported by the press and public relations service of the staff of the SJC.

It is said in the respective statement that the Supreme Judicial Council, having examined the petitions of the Prosecutor General, decided, on December 20, to grant the petitions, and agreeing to institute criminal proceedings against Judge Samvel Uzunyan and deprive him of liberty.

Uzunyan was the judge presiding over the October 27, 1999 case.
