YEREVAN. – Armenia’s former Minister of Finance and ex-chairman of the State Revenue Committee, Gagik Khachatryan, has been transferred to a medical center.

In a respective statement released by his attorneys, it says that on January 22, a medical council had given a clear recommendation for Khachatryan undergoing medical treatment in inpatient conditions. However, Khachatryan's treatment was incomprehensibly interrupted, and he was immediately taken back to penitentiary. As per the statement, his attorneys sought to provide Khachatryan with appropriate treatment, but the claim was not met and his rights were again violated.

But after numerous complaints and demands about this issue, Khachatryan was recently transferred to a medical center, although there were no medical changes.

As per the statement, the Khachatryan family’s attorneys had reported that in Gagik Khachatryan's case, the relevant state authorities were violating the right of a person under Article 3 of the European Convention. According to the attorneys, the first obligation of the state should be to ensure the conditions of treatment, but the opposite process is taking place.

In 2014-2016, Gagik Khachatryan was the Minister of Finance of Armenia, he is charged with organizing misuse during his respective tenure, and he is in custody for about 6 months. But Khachatryan does not accept the accusation against him.
