Yesterday, we made a decision—by written procedure—on calling local self-government elections; it was due to the need to maintain the timeframes, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated at Thursday's Cabinet meeting of the government of Armenia.

Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Gnel Sanosyan, in turn, informed that two decisions were made Wednesday.

"We now have three days to hold local self-government elections: October 17, November 14, and December 5. As a result of that, we will have 79 communities in Armenia, including Yerevan, Gyumri, and five communities that are populated by national minorities and have not been involved in any unification process.

By the first decision, we unite 441 communities into 38 community clusters.

Proportional [representation] elections will be held in large communities. (…).

According to the second decision, elections will be held in Arevut and Metsadzor communities of Aragatsotn Province as well. But since the number of voters in these two communities is less than 4,000, majoritarian elections will be held here," Sanosyan said, noting that all these elections will take place on December 5.
