At Wednesday's meeting, the Russian Federation Council annulled the agreement on guarantees for the rights of citizens of the CIS member states in pension provision.

According to the respective explanatory document, the provisions of this agreement that was signed more than 30 years ago no longer comply with the ideology and basic principles of the pension systems of the CIS member countries, as well as prevent the citizens of those countries from fully exercising their pension rights after retirement.

Given the "sensitive nature" of the pension issue, Russia's decision to withdraw from the aforesaid agreement is formalized in the form of a federal law, the documents say.

New agreements on pension provision have already been signed with a number of other CIS countries: Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.

Thus, after Russia’s annulment of the previous agreement, the provision of pensions to the CIS citizens will be carried out in accordance with the new agreements or national laws.
