The deputies of the State Council of Tatarstan adopted a new version of the amendments to the constitution of the republic, changing the name of the highest official of the region from President to "Head - Rais of the Republic of Tatarstan" immediately after their adoption, without taking into account the end of the term of office of the current head of Tatarstan.

The bill on the amendments to the Constitution of Tatarstan, proposing to change the name of the highest official of the Tatarstan to "Head - Rais of the Republic of Tatarstan", was adopted by the parliament of the republic on December 23, 2022. It contained transitional provisions, according to which the new title would apply only to newly elected Tatarstan's highest official, while the title of the current President of the Republic was to be kept until the end of his term (until 2025).

"The adopted law contains transitional provisions, according to which the new name ... will apply only to the newly elected highest official of the Republic of Tatarstan. However, after additional consultations ... it was decided to abandon the transitional period," said Chairman of the State Council Committee on State Construction and Local Self-Government Albert Khabibullin at a parliamentary session on Thursday.

He specified that in general the amendments are made in six sections, including 60 articles of the Constitution of the Republic. Besides, the bill introduces two new articles, 25 norms of the Constitution of the Republic are proposed to abolish.

The deputies of the Parliament by a majority vote adopted a new version of the amendments to the basic law of the republic.
