Agency for Financial Monitoring (AFM) of Kazakhstan discovered a scheme of gray import of Russian grain for further export under the guise of its own, the press service of AFM reports.

"The scheme of gray imports of Russian grain for further exports to third countries through the territory of Kazakhstan was revealed by AFM department," the message says

According to the department, one of the Kazakh firms was engaged in the export of grain from Russia to Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Tajikistan in the period from 2021 to 2022 in the amount of 8.3 thousand tons worth over 1 billion tenge ($2.2 million). In doing so, the company used "fake" invoices, allegedly confirming the Kazakh origin of grain, which allowed not to pay transit tax and caused the carrier about 150 million tenge ($337,000) of damage.

At present, a pre-trial investigation of the case is underway, the agency said.
