A Diyarbakir court reconvened to hear the lawsuit filed against Leyla Zana, a Diyarbakir-elected Kurdish female member of the Turkish parliament.

At the hearing, the prosecution asked that Zana be sentenced to 5 years in prison on charges of making propaganda for the terrorist structure, [that is, the PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party)] during her nine different public speeches, and being a member of this structure, Hurriyet daily of Turkey informs.

In December 2008, Leyla Zana was sentenced to ten years on charges of being a member of the PKK, but the appeals court had overturned the court’s ruling on the grounds that the defendant’s defense in court was carried out with flaws.
