YEREVAN. – Armenia’s Deputy PM, Territorial Administration Minister, and Armenian-Iraqi Joint Intergovernmental Committee on Economic Cooperation Co-Chair Armen Gevorgyan met, on Thursday in Baghdad, with Deputy Speaker Qusay Al-Suhail of the Council of Representatives of Iraq. They discussed the interparliamentary ties and the cooperation within international organizations.  

Gevorgyan conveyed to Al-Suhail the Armenian National Assembly Speaker’s best wishes. He pointed to the friendly ties between the Armenian and Iraqi parliaments and highly appreciated their cooperation in strengthening relations, Territorial Administration Ministry Public Relations Department informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

In his turn, Qusay Al-Suhail highlighted Iraq’s interest toward developing bilateral ties and informed that an Iraqi-Armenian parliamentary friendship group will be formed soon. Also, he pointed to the Iraqi-Armenian community’s positive role in Iraq’s development.  

The interlocutors expressed a conviction that parliamentary diplomacy could become an important link toward giving new impetus to bilateral relations. In addition, they exchanged views on Iraq’s present-day policy.   

Separately, the documents—which were agreed upon during Wednesday’s inaugural session of the Armenian-Iraqi Joint Intergovernmental Committee on Economic Cooperation—were officially signed Thursday in the Iraqi capital city. The Committee Co-Chairs, Armen Gevorgyan, and Iraq’s Deputy PM Rowsch Nuri Shaways, signed the session’s minutes. Also, the government representatives of both countries signed an agreement on the encouragement and mutual protection of investments.      

Subsequently, Armenia’s Deputy PM headed to Sulaymaniyah city, where he is scheduled to meet with Iraq’s President, Jalal Talabani.
