YEREVAN. – The assumptions around the Putin-Aliyev talk and its expectation were exaggerated.

Chairman Vahram Atanesyan of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic National Assembly Standing Committee on Foreign Relations told the aforesaid to Aravot daily.

“I see no prospect for Russian-Azerbaijani cooperation, even more so, an alliance. The problem is that by exporting [natural] gas and oil to the European markets, Azerbaijan is principally becoming a serious economic competitor of Russia.

“The Europeans do not conceal that they turn a blind eye to the arbitrariness of the [Azerbaijani president] Ilham Aliyev regime solely because Azerbaijan is Russia’s alternative in the matter of ‘ensuring energy security’ he [i.e., Atanesyan] said,” Aravot writes.
