Israeli Government confirmed candidacy of Dorit Golender as an Ambassador to Russian Federation, NEWSru Israel reports. Dorit Golender, 60, was born in Vilnius and lived in Israel within last 40 years. However, traditionally career diplomats are appointed to this post. Appealingly, this post came to Golender, as she is a friend of Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs Avigdor Lieberman.
Golender is a stranger to the field, and it is assumed that in February she will take a background course in the Foreign Ministry of Israel. “I know the tongue and mentality of Russians, which is a plus. Also I have ties with almost all Russian media and will be engaged in bilateral relations only,” Golender stated.
Israeli Foreign Ministry considers this appointment “extravagant”. Golender lacks relevant knowledge and experience in solution of the issues the Russian Ambassadors face, such as Iran’s nuke program, sale of Russian arms to Israeli adversaries and peace processes.
