YEREVAN. – Ever since Armenia’s Ministry of Health received an alarm with respect to suspicious anthrax cases recorded in the Vardenis district of the Gegharkunik Region, the Ministry started conducting epidemiological examinations and carrying out preventive and anti-epidemic measures.

Results of the laboratory testing samples, which were taken from fifteen patients who were hospitalized on October 17 on suspicion of having caught this disease, have come in, and they are as follows: Anthrax was confirmed in one patient; non-pathogenic anthrax bacteria was found in nine samples; and the results came negative in five samples. All patients are in satisfactory condition and they are recovering, the Ministry press service informs.   

Laboratory testing of the samples, which were taken from other patients who are suspected of having caught anthrax, are in progress.    

The preventive and anti-epidemic measures are continuing, and the epidemic situation in Armenia is under control.
