YEREVAN. – The Government of Armenia on Thursday approved the bill On Biosafety Use of Genetically Modified Organisms [GMOs], and several other related draft laws.       

These legislative proposals aim to better control the health risks connected with GMOs. Specifically, the conditions for the import, export, or transit of such goods will be toughened.     

The adoption of these laws stems from the Convention on Biological Diversity, which Armenia’s National assembly ratified in 2004. 

In PM Tigran Sargsyan’s words, this legislative package is also a result of an effective cooperation with NGOs.
