YEREVAN. – There are some reservations with respect to the bill on forming a new National Assembly (NA) ad hoc committee to examine the tragic events that occurred in Armenia’s capital city Yerevan on March 1, 2008. NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs Chairman Davit Harutyunyan stated this, during a press conference on Wednesday, commenting on the aforesaid initiative by the opposition bloc Armenian National Congress (ANC). 

“There may be many issues of interest to us. But this does not mean the MPs should deal with them and the NA has sufficient opportunities to find them out. I have several questions to the Special Investigation Service, whose replies will enable to comprehensively examine what transpired and to make final conclusions,” Harutyunyan said.    

In his words, the ANC has posed a number of questions, and he plans to petition to the Special Investigation Service in order to find the answers to these questions.   

Also, Davit Harutyunyan noted that the forming of an NA ad hoc committee is not the best way to get answers, since it could turn into an arena for political debates.
