BEIRUT.- A sergeant of Armenian descent was killed in Lebanon on Sunday while chasing a criminal, Editor-in-Chief Shahan Kandaharian of Lebanon’s Aztag Armenian daily told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Commander of one of military units of Lebanese army Samson Antranikian was killed during a pursuit of a criminal who opened the fire at the servicemen in Jounieh, one of the Christian suburbs near Beirut.

Kandaharian said the incident has no political or ethnic implication. “Antranikian was killed while performing his duty,” he emphasized.

Samson Antranikian was born in 1971 in Bourj Hammoud, the suburb of Beirut mainly populated by the Armenians.
