YEREVAN. – Armenia’s political opposition has not finally explained as to which format—single or separate nominee—it prefers when participating in next year’s presidential elections, Politologists’ Union of Armenia Chairman Hmayak Hovhannisyan said during a press conference on Friday.   

In his words, in the case of separate participation—and if there is a run-off—the opposition will support the candidate who will be able to pass to the final phase of the elections. 

“The tactics need to be determined in order to make a final decision. If they nominate a single candidate, this means they will attempt to create a black-and-white situation,” Hovhannisyan said, and implied that the arrangements are made along the road. Also, he noted that there is no true ruling coalition in Armenia.      

In his turn, ruling Republican Party’s former MP Lernik Aleksanyan stated that the opposition will not nominate a single presidential candidate and, if there is a run-off, it will support one of the candidates.
